“Take What the Trail Gives You”

Hello, I’m Diana Castillo-Eddy. I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), life coach, wife, mom, and avid trail runner.

Life is a little like running the trails. When I’m on a run, I love to feel my feet against the soil, the sun rising over the valley, the wind at my back, and the cool, crisp air. But anxiety, stress, pain, exhaustion, high elevation, and tripping over tree roots - it’s part and parcel of my trail running experience too.

I’ve learned that when the trail becomes steep and gnarly, it’s best to hike it. If it’s a smooth lane of dirt, then I’ll stride it out. If my body aches, I’ll relax into the pain.

When I lean into everything - the good, the bad, and the ugly - I can traverse the edges of my comfort zone. I let go of needing to control everything. I am less fearful. I can see the many gifts the trail offers.

It’s a great metaphor for life: “Take what the trail gives you.”

In life, when we are caught in a storm of negativity and frustration, it’s hard to focus on much else. We want to revert to our comfort zone where we have everything under control (well, sort of). We might even give up on important things because it all just feels too hard.

Is this sounding familiar?

Perhaps your life has gotten a little crazy or bland. Maybe your relationship is feeling tense or off. You’re looking for ways to feel better, but your efforts get you further from the people and things you care about. If this is happening, you’ve come to the right place. You don’t have to climb all these hills alone.
